April Update - Residential Parking Standards Supplementary Planning Document

On 27th March 2013 the Council’s Planning, Transportation & Strategic Environment Committee voted to approve the following recommendation with regard to the proposed new Residential Parking Standards:

  • Prior to the adoption of the Core Strategy, Members approve the Residential Parking Standards for New Development Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), as a material consideration in the development management process.
  • Delegated authority is given the officers in consultation with PTSE Leads to:
  • update paragraph 2.1 re ward level vehicle ownership statistics when the 2011 census data becomes available
  • update footnote 13 and Appendix E (Policy CS8) following adoption of the Core Strategy,
  • finalise the SPD layout, appearance and imagery, subject to work by design and print.
  • Members formally adopt the Car Parking Standards SPD at the time the Core Strategy is formally adopted in accordance with the statutory regulations.

The SPD will therefore be formally adopted upon adoption of the South Gloucestershire Core Strategy.

Residential Parking Standards Draft Supplementary Planning Document
Public consultation in accordance with Regulations 12 & 13 of the
Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012

Over a number of years residents of new developments and established communities in South Gloucestershirehave been telling us that the number of parking spaces provided with new homes is not always adequate. A review has therefore been requested by South Gloucestershire Councillors who are concerned that our existing parking standards may not always provide for the right number of parking spaces with new residential developments.

The Council is therefore preparing a new Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) that will contain parking standards for new houses and flats.  The Draft SPD and supporting documents are now published for consultation:

For example, education issues may be of particular interest to Parents & Guardians, and so will be shown to people searching the system for parenting issues, but the views of others (eg: Business, Faith Groups) are also relevant.
